EDITORIAL | Classic Denim Looks
Regardless of what era, I find that there seems to be 3 classic looks worn with denim. Let’s have a closer look on these key looks and how to make them work for you.
1. Denim-on-denim
Denim sandwich, Canadian Tuxedo…as Canucks, we know this look very well. Depending on how you carry out this look, it could either be uber trendy or a fashion faux pas (see below).
I hope both their stylists were fired after this
To avoid looking like a denim experiment gone wrong, follow these simple steps to make this classic look work for you:
a) Wear a different shade of denim on the top (like a light chambray shirt) with a darker denim. This creates a much better sight line, separating your top and bottom half.
b) Add a pop of colour whether it be your shoes, a bag, jewelry, etc. It will be a great forefront to your all-denim background.
2. Jeans and a T-shirt
The classic comfy go-to style. Perfect for weekend wear or a casual day at work – although there are boundaries from looking schleppy to casual chic. Check out a few pointers on how to make this work for you.
a) Choose a simple t-shirt to go with your jeans. Just make sure it’s clean (no stains or rips) to avoid that sloppy look.
b) If your t-shirt is a bit long, tuck in the front part so you can see the waistband. Accentuate with a belt.
c) Pair with a fashionable pair of sandals, wedges, or heels and accessories to dress it up.
3. White Shirt + Denim
a) To dress up, wear dark denim with a crisp white button-down blouse. Pair it with a pair of heels and a structured bag. Add a blazer if you’re feeling extra dressy.
b) To dress down, pair a nice flowy white top with lighter denim. Depending on your jeans, wear flats/sandals for skinnies and wedges for flares.
